Support Our Troops Hacky Sack Donation Program 10/28/04
GlobalMarketplace.org has set up the Support Our
Troops Hacky Sack Donation Program on their website at
www.globalmarketplace.org to allow members of the
public to make donations of hacky sacks to our troops
in Iraq and other parts of the world, through the Blue
Star Moms care package program in Danville,
California. The first shipment of hacky sacks will be
delivered to Blue Star Moms on November 6, 2004, so
they will arrive in time for the holidays. The Blue
Star Moms is the San Francisco Bay Area local chapter
of the National Blue Star Mothers of America.
GlobalMarketplace.org is a Non-profit Grassroots
Community Development Organization. Their purpose is
to reduce poverty around the world by selling local
village crafts and clothing at a fair price through
their website and to return as much of the sales price
as possible to the local artist. They purchase hacky
sacks from UPAVIM Crafts in Guatemala. In English
UPAVIM means "UNITED FOR A BETTER LIFE".
GlobalMarketplace.org realized they could both support
our troops and help the poor craft producers in
Guatemala at the same time by offering this donation
program.
"We receive orders frequently from our troops in Iraq
and other parts of the world for hacky sacks. We have
decided the best way we can support our troops is to
find a way to donate hacky sacks so that as many
individuals as possible can enjoy the fun and activity
that these items offer," said Gary Bond, President of
GlobalMarketplace.org.
The Support Our Troops Hacky Sack Donation Program
offers donors $25, $50 and $100 contribution levels.
The donations are used to purchase hacky sacks and
ship them to the organization that will ship them to
our troops. GlobalMarketplace.org does not make any
money on the transaction. All of the donated funds are
used only for the program. "This ongoing program will
help bolster the spirits of our hard-working troops,
as well as provide a living for craft producers in
Guatemala," said Gary Bond.

Global Marketplace is pleased to announce that for the ninth consecutive
year, the Women's World Summit Foundation ( WWSF) has announced the
winners of the Prize for Women's Creativity in Rural Life. The ArtCamp
Association of Tecalpulco, Mexico, which was nominated by Global
Marketplace (a Rocklin, California, based nonprofit marketer of handmade
crafts from developing nations) is one of the winners.
ArtCamp is being honored for its creative use of the Internet in finding
wholesale buyers for its jewelry. Global Marketplace is a partner in this
project allowing ArtCamp to accept credit card payments and sell jewelry in
the Global Marketplace site in Yahoo Shopping. ArtCamp will receive the
prize on World Rural Women's Day, October 15, 2002. ArtCamp provides
most of the pendants and earrings sold on the Global Marketplace web
sites. The jewelry can be seen at:

WWSF, a humanitarian, non-governmental and international,
non-confessional and non-profit organization with United Nations
consultative status (ECOSOC, UNFPA and DPI), works for a new
development paradigm with and for women and children.
Rural women the world over play a major role in ensuring food security and
maintaining stability in rural areas. Yet, they frequently lack the power to
secure land rights or to access services such as credit, inputs, extension,
training and education.
Six of the 32 winners will be invited to Geneva for an Award ceremony on
World Rural Women's Day - 15 October. This year the prize celebration will
be held at the Swiss National Exposition Expo.02 (ExpoAgricole) at Morat
(Murten). For more details visit the Global Marketplace web site in Yahoo
