The Friendship and Peace Society began an embroidery project in 1996 to help poor village women feed and educate their children. We hope therefore that you will look at the beautiful work done by poor village women who are the sole support of their families and we also hope that you will help them care for their children.
These delightful hand embroidered purses from the Hebron area of Palestine are made of traditional Palestinian embroidery motifs combined in new and unusual ways.
Each one-of-a-kind purse is embroidered with the traditional Palestinian cross stitch on cotton with DMC embroidery thread on one side only. The purses are lined. Each is hand washable and will give years of pleasure to its owner. It was made by an impoverished village woman who employs her traditional skill of embroidery to earn money to feed and educate her children.
The little Beduin purses (approximately 5” W x 8” H) are made of recycled old embroidered dresses or new dresses cut up. The medium purses (approximately 8” W x 11” H) are made of recycled old embroidered dresses or new dresses cut up. The larger purses (approximately 11” W x 12” H) include an inside pocket with a Velcro fastener.
The women pictured below live in the village of Idna. Naeen designs all the new purses.
